Diary Date: 14 June 2015 - Meet Karen Neale at Stamford Arts Centre

Karen Neale: Artist based in Stamford, sketching the world around her.
"My passion is sketching and painting the world around me in my annotated, sketchbook diaries. Standing in situ I draw with a black biro as much as I can of what is going on around me, adding colour with my small field box of watercolours. The notes I’ve made around the perimeter are  of observations made whilst sketching."

I am one of the founders of ESCartists in collaboration with my artist friends Eve Marshall and Cathi Prince. Escartists is a new creative group planning an escape from the ordinary by organising Artist markets and exhibitions promoting extraordinary workmanship and talent. I will be sharing details of all 12 artists taking part in our 2015 events on this blog. Feel free to share, reblog and also ask any questions you may have via the Escartists website. Thanks :-)

  1. This kind of art is new to me - sketching and coloring on the spot with notes in handwriting. The ones I saw look beautiful and vintage!

The Cabochons I made

Here is a picture of my first cabs :-) As I said before I am not 100% satisfied with them but it's a start. It's my first attempt and some of them have turned out all right. The others, well back to the grinding wheel again I guess. Here is a close up of the individual cabochons: These are the ones that definitely need more work! ------------------------------------------- These I am reasonably pleased with for a first attempt :-) They are a lot shinier than the pictures show ------------------------------------------- And this one was a bugger! Its a Porcelain Jasper with such beautiful patterns on it but try as I might it does not get an overall smooth finish. The different patterns all seem to have different properties and grind down differently. I'll think about this one a bit more. ------------------------------------------- And I am proud of this one!

Beadsoup Blog Party: Shalini's Soup is Served! Finally!

The chef is a lazy sod but I do hope the servings have been worth waiting for? For a while it was Will she, Won't she, Can She?  Yes she can! :-) I didn't get to use any fancy tools like the torch, saw, drill or add ingredients like solder but I did what I could with the lovely ingredients and I think they did not need any extra embellishments to be honest! The fantastic Bead soup from my partner  Susan McClelland  had enough ingredients in it to just add a bit of wire, a few findings to create this! The main piece! Sari Silk Ribbon, Ceramic Pendant Focal, Hand etched Copper Clasp, handmade glazed ceramic beads and plenty of copper wire. All joined together with my trademark spiral links. YES Fabric! Not really my friend! But it was too beautiful not to use! Thanks for the challenge Susan, I quite enjoyed playing with the sari silk to make it part of the pendant. Tools: My hands, Flat and round nose pliers and dodgy eyes.  And because Susan sent me such a gene

Stamford Arts and Crafts Market - 26 July 2009

Just sent my cheque off for the next Stamford Arts and Crafts Market to be held on 26 th July. I did the May market and it was OK, but it wasn't the nicest of days - cold, windy and wet. Plus I booked for the Art Centre which is slightly out of the way of the High Street. But I prefer to be indoors so its the Art Centre again for the next one. I did make a few sales and some good contacts. I am hoping some of us jewellery designers can get together and do an exclusive Jewellery show. We all make different types of jewellery and I think it could be quite good! I'll keep you posted as things progress....
