Scary Post From Exactly 1 Year Ago...

Go Slow | Jewellery By Shalini:

I wrote this on 25 May 2011:
At the moment my adventures in jewellery making are on a go slow and its not very nice. For about  a month now I have been suffering from blurred vision on and off.  Some days I can see clearly but some days the vision is completely blurred. Been to the optician – nothing wrong with eye sight. Had a whole lot of blood tests including for diabetes. All Fine. I have now been referred to the eye clinic & Fingers Crossed they will know what’s wrong.
So there are days (and quite a lot of them!) when there is no way I can make any jewellery because everything is blurred. I can do some work on the computer because it can be set to large size reading option but I am reluctant to try close work or take on any repair jobs at the moment. The last repair job was delayed so much because of vision problems.  The customer was really sweet and understanding about it and it has finally been completed but that’s not how I work and I felt so bad letting her down :-(
Well I am staying positive that the ophthalmologists will be able to figure out what it is. My past experience when I used to suffer from Iritis has always been really good at Peterborough Hospital and they do know what they are doing.
So I may be quiet for a while but hopefully not too long. I will of course do all the craft fairs I have booked.

Update 25 May 2012: I still have the eye condition but nothing like what it was a year ago thanks to the fantastic Eye doctors at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust
(And yes that means this is a massive shout-out for SAVE OUR NHS too!)

I am making jewellery again, I can work properly again and I am being VERY GOOD! I remember to take my medication everyday!

PHEW!

UK Inspiration Challenge... "Walk On..."

I came across ArtisanWhimsy on Facebook through MyBeadTherpay ’s Page (I follow Heidi’s work with a passion because she has inspired me to try so many new things and its great to see how wonderfully her work has progressed in the 2 odd years we've been talking bling with each other!) And right there on the front page of the forum was this little banner which took me to a page which said: “Can you create a piece of jewellery or a jewellery component inspired by where the UK Blog team live?” The choices were Dorset / Edinburgh / Bath / The Isle of Wight / Liverpool / Southampton and this is what the description said about Liverpool : image courtesy Wikipedia “ Liverpool  is world-famous as the home of The Beatles, but is also well known for football, the Scouse (now there's a term for you non-Brits to look up!) sense of humour and of course, the shipping port and the River Mersey” The description and for various other reasons Liverpool it had t...

My Kuala Lumpur Challenge Earrings

And here is my entry for Dini Bruinsma's  Blogger Non Blogger Photo inspiration Challenge on Bead Soup Cafe.  The two things that immediately struck me about the challenge picture are the vivid colours that show up against the dark brown to black background and the prominent rounded shapes.  So I used multicolour freshwater pearls in shades of orange, yellow, red and brown with a few greens too and twisted them on silver plated copper wire to make funky hoops for earrings. Good Luck everyone taking part!

7th Bead Soup Party: Shalini's Sparkly Serving Revealed!

So the day is finally here! Its PARTY TIME! My parties are always "Bring a Bottle" kinds so help yourself to your favourite tipple and enjoy! Part 1: This is my first entry into the world of Bead Soups. Be gentle lovely people... It all started when I signed up for the Pretty Things 7th Bead Soup Blog party on 26 January. I have since blogged a bit about it. My Partner Sarah Goode from Pookledo sent me a lovely stash of shiny things! A handful of Swarovski disc crystals / Some metal glitterballs in various sizes / A length of silver plated chain / Some Swarovski glass pearls / a magnetic glitterball clasp  Yummy I hear you say! It is! But apart from the silver chain these are things I have NEVER worked with before! My pieces tend to have a lot of colour in them! And here I am looking at lots of grey (OK shiny silvery grey but it is shades of grey, maybe not quite 50 but near enough!) HELP! This is totally out of my comfort zone! You set me a chal...
