It's Christmas!

Or is it?... Its never Christmas until Slade is played and Noddy Holder's "It's Christmas" rings out over radio 2. I may have missed it but I have not heard it yet! So come on BBC where is my song?

In every other way the Christmas madness is here. I should know! I have been at numerous craft fairs already with our jewellery and wire sculpture trees. I am sure most makers and designers are doing the same. Week-ends are not a time to relax any more, most evenings there are little Village hall and school fund-raising events happening and the bespoke gift orders are coming in too! It's all Go! Go! Go! and I am loving it :-)

In the last couple of weeks I have had a lot of interest in my freshwater Pearl strings and other jewellery. Here are some examples which would (I hope!) bring a smile to a lucky girl's face on Christmas morning...

My Kuala Lumpur Challenge Earrings

And here is my entry for Dini Bruinsma's  Blogger Non Blogger Photo inspiration Challenge on Bead Soup Cafe.  The two things that immediately struck me about the challenge picture are the vivid colours that show up against the dark brown to black background and the prominent rounded shapes.  So I used multicolour freshwater pearls in shades of orange, yellow, red and brown with a few greens too and twisted them on silver plated copper wire to make funky hoops for earrings. Good Luck everyone taking part!

Patina Challenge You Say? OK...

Those of you who follow my ramblings on the internet ( Facebook , twitter , blogs , etc. ) should know about my famous torch by now! And if you don't:  Dremel Versaflame Torch + Copper = Fun! So when I came across the Patina Sunset Challenge on Artisan Whimsy I understandably got just a little bit excited :-) I have been playing with patina on copper by painting all kinds of copper bits with fire. Sometimes satisfied, mostly not, many times I have started again but generally its been a learning exercise that I know will do me good! I made these bangles. They are OK... Actually they are pretty good for a first attempt but Can do better! Then I played some more and used the same copper pipes that I used in the bangles above to make some earrings. They turned out all right. I liked the way the colours came out. And I think they should fit in well with all the horseshoes at Oakham Castle at my next show there. Horseshoe Earrings made with copper tubes, flame painted...

Textured Copper Heart Pendant

Artisan Whimsey: Bead Lovers Valentines Challenge

The latest challenge on Artisan Whimsy is all about love! With Valentine's day just round the corner that is just perfect :-) The challenge is to "Design a piece of jewelry or component(s) that represent your PASSION & LOVE" I am hoping to make a new piece for this if I can but in the meantime there is a piece I made recently which is called "Love" and I am entering it into the "Voted Category". I really want to hear what other jewellery designers think of it! Fingers crossed it gets a few votes! Read more about the piece here: Love is in the air!
