Iritis - Bah

I've had an interesting couple of weeks with my old mate Iritis paying a visit. It's really not welcome any time but this visit was particularly obnoxious. Not because of the pain (I am on strong pain killers for the AS!) but the medication that goes with it and the timing!

As you all know the Spring Craft Fair was on 16 May. Well the Thursday before the big day Iritis flared up, Friday was spent running around GPs and Hospital. The Eye clinic messed up the appointment and I had to go to A&E to be seen. Not my favourite place! Anyway the good doctor immediately said yes it is Iritis and here are the pupil dilating drops you must use twice a day along with the steroid treatment. The steroids are fine, but the pupil dilating eye drops blur the vision. Couldn't read, Couldn't make jewellery, couldn't see anything clearly!

The timing was particularly bad because I had spent so much time working on organising the craft fair and not enough on my own Jewellery! I had set aside Thursday - Saturday to finish off all my work for the craft fair. Well that did'nt happen! Dave helped me sort out pricing etc. for some things but I could not take everything I wanted to. And my craft Stall was a bit of a mess too on the day! Basically I could not see clearly and on top of that all the blurred movement around me gave me motion sickness.

I normally spend a lot of time talking to visitors to my stall at events, this time I spent my time sitting with my head down tying to keep away from the light. So no surprises that it wasn't great sales wise! I wasn't exactly the friendly crafter trying to engage people. I was the grumpy one who customers avoid! AND I wasn't able to talk to all the stall holders and address any questions / concerns they had. Not a good event organiser either then!

Not impressed but what to do? Except rant rant rant! And I am tired of that as well now! As is everyone around me, so I promise this is the last rant about Iritis.

Anyway...

Its over now, the May Craft Fair, the iritis and judging by the temperature today even the summer is over now!

Its been a scary and annoying and boring time and apologies to anyone who has had to put up with me feeling very sorry for myself.

This bank holiday week-end is now all about playing catch-up because I CAN SEE AGAIN :D

First a Bracelet to repair and a new bracelet to make - 2 weeks late but both customers have been very understanding. Thank you Ladies :-) Then new items to list on the website, maybe some on ebay and zolanta and revisit misi again.

And the most important project for the next few weeks - the Stamford Help For Heroes Military Tattoo on 19 June Organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford. I will post more on that later.

Patina Challenge You Say? OK...

Those of you who follow my ramblings on the internet ( Facebook , twitter , blogs , etc. ) should know about my famous torch by now! And if you don't:  Dremel Versaflame Torch + Copper = Fun! So when I came across the Patina Sunset Challenge on Artisan Whimsy I understandably got just a little bit excited :-) I have been playing with patina on copper by painting all kinds of copper bits with fire. Sometimes satisfied, mostly not, many times I have started again but generally its been a learning exercise that I know will do me good! I made these bangles. They are OK... Actually they are pretty good for a first attempt but Can do better! Then I played some more and used the same copper pipes that I used in the bangles above to make some earrings. They turned out all right. I liked the way the colours came out. And I think they should fit in well with all the horseshoes at Oakham Castle at my next show there. Horseshoe Earrings made with copper tubes, flame painted...
