Workshop Envy... Shedglas Design

Yesterday I went to see my friend Cathi at her Open Studio and Garden event in Haconby Village in Lincolnshire. She has a beautiful garden! (I WANT A GARDEN LIKE THAT! Imagine how much fun Taj and Millie would have if they had all that space!)

And she has a lovely workshop. Yes it is in a shed but what a marvellous shed it is! Cathi's studio is a really pleasant place to be, surrounded by gorgeous stained glass panels, mirrors and decorative hangings. And all the right tools to make these beautiful stained glass designs. Cathi is very good at what she does!

We are very proud of of our Lapidary workshop in the garage, but the Shedglas Design studio is something else! One day I would love to have a jewellery and Lapidary workshop like this with lots of natural light, fresh air and space to have open studio days. That's when we could perhaps start teaching as well...

Cathi  was demonstrating her craft and carrying out little modifications to existing pieces for customers. It was lovely to see this really talented artist at work.

Cathi offers leaded and Copper Foil Stained glass classes at the studio. More details can be found on her website Shedglas.co.uk

I attended one of Cathi's Copper Foil Stained glass workshops some time ago and really enjoyed the experience. I look forward to doing another one in the near future. Its a great new skill to learn and something I know I can apply to some of my work too!

I made these at a Shedglas Design Copper Foil Workshop. Not in the same class as my lovely teacher's work but I am very proud of them :-)

7th Bead Soup Party: Shalini's Sparkly Serving Revealed!

So the day is finally here! Its PARTY TIME! My parties are always "Bring a Bottle" kinds so help yourself to your favourite tipple and enjoy! Part 1: This is my first entry into the world of Bead Soups. Be gentle lovely people... It all started when I signed up for the Pretty Things 7th Bead Soup Blog party on 26 January. I have since blogged a bit about it. My Partner Sarah Goode from Pookledo sent me a lovely stash of shiny things! A handful of Swarovski disc crystals / Some metal glitterballs in various sizes / A length of silver plated chain / Some Swarovski glass pearls / a magnetic glitterball clasp  Yummy I hear you say! It is! But apart from the silver chain these are things I have NEVER worked with before! My pieces tend to have a lot of colour in them! And here I am looking at lots of grey (OK shiny silvery grey but it is shades of grey, maybe not quite 50 but near enough!) HELP! This is totally out of my comfort zone! You set me a chal...

Beadsoup Blog Party: Shalini's Soup is Served! Finally!

The chef is a lazy sod but I do hope the servings have been worth waiting for? For a while it was Will she, Won't she, Can She?  Yes she can! :-) I didn't get to use any fancy tools like the torch, saw, drill or add ingredients like solder but I did what I could with the lovely ingredients and I think they did not need any extra embellishments to be honest! The fantastic Bead soup from my partner  Susan McClelland  had enough ingredients in it to just add a bit of wire, a few findings to create this! The main piece! Sari Silk Ribbon, Ceramic Pendant Focal, Hand etched Copper Clasp, handmade glazed ceramic beads and plenty of copper wire. All joined together with my trademark spiral links. YES Fabric! Not really my friend! But it was too beautiful not to use! Thanks for the challenge Susan, I quite enjoyed playing with the sari silk to make it part of the pendant. Tools: My hands, Flat and round nose pliers and dodgy eyes....

Recycled Bead Necklaces

While going through my hoarded stash of beads, wire and all kinds of jewellery making bits for the Bead Hoarders Blog hop I came across a big bag of beads, mostly wooden but a few glass ones thrown in as well! My friend Carol gave me these beads. I don’t know if they were just beads she had bought or if they have been in a necklace before but she said she was sure I would find some use for them. This was many months ago! Anyway... I have finally made something with the recycled beads. They have been thoroughly cleaned and washed and I think they look nice on adjustable waxed cotton cord. I also used wire which was left over from previous projects where possible. Some extra components I made, or occasionally when it got bent out of shape or scratched and I just put it aside instead of repairing it. Hoarder that I am I rarely throw things away! :-) These necklaces are available to buy in my on-line shop . If you have old beads from a broken necklace, or a necklace you are bored...
