Looks like its neglect the blog (again) month!

Yup I have not updated this blog for ages and I'll be honest I have not even visited it much!

Its been a mad month so far!

In the Motorhomes business it was Burning Man RV Rentals balance payment week last week and that is always crazy. This year spectacularly so with a couple of ... clients for the first time in my history of doing Burning Man bookings. But as in everything else two people will not let me spoil the enjoyment of dealing with some of the nicest people in the world who keep coming back every year, refer their friends and even share their fun photos with me when they come back from the show :-) I will go there one day...

Then there is Accounts! I never want to see another spreadsheet in my life! GRRRRR!

Couple of bespoke orders to make.

Preparing for the 29 July Summer Fair. As one of the committee members of Stamford Artisans Guild I do volunteer a lot of time to guild stuff (and enjoy every second of it... OK almost every second of it!)

And I am re-building my website because the current software is not doing everything I need it to do and the guys who wrote it are not doing much to make any updates to it!

And its annual tidy up week this week too! Mr. A's Mum is coming for a visit to celebrate his birthday on 29th July so I think we have to get the house looking something like a home instead of a workshop with jewellery bits, tools and wire everywhere!

Now I am off to the workshop to try and make some new display busts for the jewellery.

Happy Days...

It's not just a hobby!

It is our Livelihood, it is our Business, it is what helps to pay the bills! Yes, this one's going to be a bit of a rant! One of my artisan friends recently mentioned her experience at a (fairly large) Christmas craft market where a lady spent a lot of time looking at her work and then said "Hmmm Nice Hobby" and walked off. And then I saw this on facebook "Well you must have a lot of time - you obviously don't work!" on a page called Kirsty Elson Designs - another crafter. Probably not spoken by the same person but  it's this attitude from a lot of people that really gets to me sometimes! It's not just a hobby! In my case it is a part time business, but its a part time business that keeps my dogs fed and pays my monthly utility bills! And occasionally allows me to go to the pub and have a drink with my friends.  I work hard for it and I earn it!... AND pay my taxes on what I earn! [UPDATE 01 October 2014: It is now my full time job! So al...

Busy Week-end

I had a really busy Week-end in terms of events. Sadly not a lot of sales to show for it. The Help For Heroes Military Tattoo was badly affected by the weather unfortunately. It really felt more January than June especially in the strong wind. It was an outdoor event and the Gazebos we set up did not feel secure at all. And as it was so cold a lot of people did not turn up even though the organisers had sold lots of tickets. So the group of Crafters who had set up stalls spent the afternoon chatting with each other and listening to the music played by the RAF band. That was pleasant... and hot food from Tuk Tuk Foods was very welcome too! That was lovely as always! I would like to thank the Organisers of the event for inviting us to be there and I hope they raised a lot of money for this very noble charity, despite low attendance. On Father's Day I was at Sacrewell Farm near Peterborough for a Day of Demonstration and Sales. I took one of our Rock Tumblers to show the tumblin...

Labradorite! Lots of it!

Its been a while since I posted here.... been a busy few months with motorhome enquiries picking up. But even more important - the weather has improved and I am spending more and more time in our little workshop having fun with Rocks. At the moment the two hot favourites are Flin t and Labradorite. I'll talk about the Flint later..... Labradorite - one word - WOW! This is the most beautiful Semi Precious stone I have ever seen! I love Rose Quartz and Carnelian but Labradorite is a whole different world. I could spend hours and hours just looking at it from different angles to try and find the flashes (known as Labradorescence) of Blue, Gold and Green that show up when the stone is held at a certain angle and the light is right. In fact I have spent so much time admiring the stone that I have not made any jewellery from it yet! Dave has made some beautiful Labradorite Cabochons: And he wrapped a couple of them in Sterling Silver Wire and made these beautiful Pendants. I th...
