Wire Sculptures and Trees

It's been a cold winter and Dave and I found it a bit difficult to go out into the Lapidary Workshop. One, it was a bit (well a lot!) cold out there and two, part of the workshop was used as storage area for the extra wood we acquired to keep the open fire going through the cold weather.

After all the excitement of the Christmas Market was over we felt a little lost. The workshop was too cold and the television was boring. So Dave went looking for ideas on what else we could do. Everyone knows about my obsession with wire :-) and we always have plenty in the house. And thanks to my friend Amanda from Greensleaves Florist I had some lovely coloured craft wire as well! Dave had been making a few simple Gem trees with wire and Tumblestones and he found this fantastic website about Beaded and Wire Tree Sculptures

End result... we are now having so much fun making Wire Tree Sculptures of different types. I have added the first few wire creations we have made to the Jewellery By Shalini Online Showroom and some are on display at Greensleaves Florist at the Stamford Garden Centre as well.

The Cabochons I made

Here is a picture of my first cabs :-) As I said before I am not 100% satisfied with them but it's a start. It's my first attempt and some of them have turned out all right. The others, well back to the grinding wheel again I guess. Here is a close up of the individual cabochons: These are the ones that definitely need more work! ------------------------------------------- These I am reasonably pleased with for a first attempt :-) They are a lot shinier than the pictures show ------------------------------------------- And this one was a bugger! Its a Porcelain Jasper with such beautiful patterns on it but try as I might it does not get an overall smooth finish. The different patterns all seem to have different properties and grind down differently. I'll think about this one a bit more. ------------------------------------------- And I am proud of this one!

Beadsoup Blog Party: Shalini's Soup is Served! Finally!

The chef is a lazy sod but I do hope the servings have been worth waiting for? For a while it was Will she, Won't she, Can She?  Yes she can! :-) I didn't get to use any fancy tools like the torch, saw, drill or add ingredients like solder but I did what I could with the lovely ingredients and I think they did not need any extra embellishments to be honest! The fantastic Bead soup from my partner  Susan McClelland  had enough ingredients in it to just add a bit of wire, a few findings to create this! The main piece! Sari Silk Ribbon, Ceramic Pendant Focal, Hand etched Copper Clasp, handmade glazed ceramic beads and plenty of copper wire. All joined together with my trademark spiral links. YES Fabric! Not really my friend! But it was too beautiful not to use! Thanks for the challenge Susan, I quite enjoyed playing with the sari silk to make it part of the pendant. Tools: My hands, Flat and round nose pliers and dodgy eyes.  And because Susan sent me such a gene

Stamford Arts and Crafts Market - 26 July 2009

Just sent my cheque off for the next Stamford Arts and Crafts Market to be held on 26 th July. I did the May market and it was OK, but it wasn't the nicest of days - cold, windy and wet. Plus I booked for the Art Centre which is slightly out of the way of the High Street. But I prefer to be indoors so its the Art Centre again for the next one. I did make a few sales and some good contacts. I am hoping some of us jewellery designers can get together and do an exclusive Jewellery show. We all make different types of jewellery and I think it could be quite good! I'll keep you posted as things progress....
